Rating off road trails is very difficult due to the widely different conditions and variations on any given day or area. My top criteria are a. Ease of access (close proximity to major roads) b. Congestion (how much traffic on any given day) c. Well-Marked Trails d. Varied Trail Conditions (more variations are better) e. Maintenance of Trails. This trail is very accessible being near Devil's Den State park which has lots o opportunities for camping and overnight activities. There is usually moderate to light traffic during the weekend, heavy during holidays, and almost none during the week. You rarely feel like you are in a traffic jam, and most of the time feel like you have the trail to yourself. The trail is not very well marked, and actually is not marked accurately on the available trail maps. It i easy to get turned around if you do not get the correct map...which incidentally is NOT on the official website for the trail! The overall trail conditions are really nice as you can avoid the mud puddles or hit them head on as well as several stream crossings to make it fun. There are a lot of ups and downs so you never feel like the trail is monotonous. Finally the trails are well-maintained most of the year, with the occasional detour needed to avoid recently downed trees. This is wonderful trail system of over 40 miles of loops and shortcuts. Enough to keep you riding all day, and still have nice areas to camp and enjoy Lee Creek or Fall Creek nearby.
