Alberto Carnevali National Airport (IATA: MRD, ICAO: SVMD), is a national and commercial public airport located in the city of Mérida, Venezuela. It was until 2008 the main airport of the state of Mérida and one of the most prominent in the Andean region and the country, at which time new regulations limited the commercial operation in it. The name of the airport is attributed in honor of the work performed by lawyer and politician Alberto Carnevali. Opened in the year 1956, this airport was located on the outskirts of the city, but the rapid urban growth during the 60s and 70s, soon left it completely surrounded by homes and buildings on its four sides. Two large mountain ranges are around it, on the south side is the Sierra Nevada with its highest peak, Pico Bolívar, at 4978 meters above sea level. It has an air terminal with services such as car rental, excursions to sites of tourist interest, sale of air tickets, taxi line, cafeteria, restaurant and commercial stores. The airport does not have Customs nor beacons, therefore it cannot accommodate international or night flights. The entrances and exits are carried out by the visual corridors "Chama River" to the WSW, "Observatory" to the ENE, "El Morro" to the South and "El Valle" to the North. The operations are governed under the VFR flight rules as there are no nearby radio aids.

Excellent and super traditional this airport. Small but perfect for this city. Merida, a city with the best climate in Venezuela, has this airport at 2,400 meters above sea level. With a view to the arrival that shows the. Pico Bolívar on your right. And the city with the red roofs under your wings.
