The Reading Room - Ateneo del Táchira is a Tachira institution founded in April 1907. The current headquarters in the center of the city of San Cristóbal, capital of the Táchira state is since 1937. It is a small cultural complex that houses various rooms and spaces ready for fine arts and culture in general. Its architecture is typical of the historical moment in which it was founded and takes care of the details of the time. Although he has suffered the mistreatment of time, he remains an icon of Tachira and Venezuelan history. This institution has spaces available for people to read, draw, take pictures, workshops, courses in various arts, literary debates, gatherings among others. The central courtyard is a tribute with monuments to the founders of this cultural heritage, Dr. Abel Santos, first president and benefactor of the institution and Pedro María Morantes (Pio Gil). This area also used for artistic and cultural presentations of the region. The largest movement takes place in the María Santos Stella room, a room founded in 1970 as a small theater with a capacity for 300 people, with excellent acoustics and a very European layout. Plays, concerts, music recitals, artistic galas, dance performances and protocol events are the main activities carried out in this historic hall.
