This university began its activities in 2005, it was created during the presidential mandate of Hugo Rafael Chavez Frias, Unefa open to the people gave many people the opportunity to grow professionally since at that time there was only one university in the municipality (UNESR). He began with fundamental careers at that time as Administration in Municipal Management, Administration of Disasters, Nursing, Dental Mechanics, Civil Engineering and Systems Engineering. The first class graduated in 2010 in the midst of many inconveniences, at first Closed Order classes were given at the Martin Rada Stadium and sometimes at the Guaicapuro Military Fort for not having a training area at the headquarters, it was very controversial for being a University of the Armed Forces, there were teachers with Chavista doctrines, there were also teachers without much experience in adult education and therefore they had to create a special diploma for them, as well as there were wonderful teachers who nurtured many students with knowledge and love for university careers.
