The house was owned by Juan Jerez de Aristigueta, who was Simón Bolívar's cousin and godfather, and was later inherited by him. After the marriage in 1802 of Bolivar with María Teresa Rodríguez del Toro and Alayza, celebrated in Spain, it became the residence of the newlyweds. They shared their stay in Caracas between the Casa Grande de San Mateo and this one. In 1803, due to the poor health of Maria Teresa, they settled permanently in the Casa del Vínculo, where the wife of the Liberator finally died. Towards 1810, in one of his trips to Venezuela, Francisco de Miranda stayed there and carried out the first meeting of the Patriotic Society, a revolutionary association founded by him and promoted by the Supreme Government Board of Venezuela in the wake of the events of the April 19, 1810. Near the house worked the printing press where the Act of Independence was printed. In the Casa del Vínculo, the Government of Venezuela also operated during the separation of the Gran Colombia.
