Originally belonged to Admiral Luis Brión. In 1817 General Manuel Piar was jailed, and he remained locked up in one of his rooms for fourteen days. It is accessed
to it through a vestibule or corridor of entrance, that goes towards the inner corridors by means of metallic columns in the form of C that in turn communicate with the halls and surround the lateral patio. Its façade is asymmetric, with simple architectural patterns, with two windows covered with wrought iron grilles, with a shelf and molding to divert rain and dust; It is covered by a molding and a low wall. In the middle of the patio there is a small
barrack that was improvised as General Piar's prison, built with uncut stone walls and roofs of bitter cane, mangrove ropes and tiles. One of its walls has a circular opening that, they say, was the means used by the priest of a nearby church to supply Piar with water and food. Inside this hostel
there was the silver crucifix carved by the goldsmith José González Navarro in 1723, now located in the Gobernación, kissed by Piar and delivered to the priest before his execution.
It is a National Historical Monument according to Official Gazette No. 31,017 of July 7, 1976.
The Prison House Museum of Piar is an obligatory destination for any Bolivarian or foreigner who visits and wishes to know the historical center of Ciudad Bolivar well. General Manuel Carlos María Francisco Piar Gómez, friend of the Liberator Simón Bolívar, who ironically sentenced him to death was imprisoned in this house. General Piar was an important figure in the emancipatory deeds carried out in Venezuela during the colony, and he lived his last days in this house until the day of his execution, carried out on one of the walls of the metropolitan cathedral, which is almost in front of the museum. It is important to note that the location of the Piar prison house museum in the center of the historic quadrilateral of Ciudad Bolívar, gives the visitor the advantage of being close to other museums and historical sites of the city, which can easily be walked, such as for example: Plaza Bolívar, the cathedral, the museums; Angostura Congress, Old Jail, Correo del Orinoco, among many others.
