On the road that starts from Estanques, on the road that leads to the so-called “southern villages” in the state of Mérida, in the Venezuelan Andes, you have to take a detour on a route that leads to “El Hato”. There, nestled in the mountain, is the community of Trappist monks of the monastery of Our Lady of the Andes: a relatively young monastic community, which has decided to live the spirit of the Cistercian reform in the retreat of the Andean mountains. There, the Trappists of Our Lady of the Andes dedicate themselves to prayer and manual work, producing coffee of exceptional quality, and receiving in their lodge every person thirsty for silence and contemplation. A monk will be available to chat with whoever wishes The house has twelve rooms with private bathroom and hot water, a living room, a conference room that includes audio and video projection material; and an oratory. They offer you the three meals, vegetarian, in a pre-established menu and at a fixed time.
