During the 19th century Chorus became an important nucleus of Jews Sephardic Jews (Jews of Spanish origin) who participated in a active in the political, economic, social and cultural life of the city (politically we can cite the mandate of David Honeb as mayor of Coro in 1830 and culturally the existence of literary groups such as Harmony and Alegría, both conformed by numerous Jewish members, among whom the modernist poet Elías David Curiel, author of the letter of the State anthem, stood out). By 1830 the land was granted to the Jewish community where their cemetery would later be built, close to the Catholic cemetery. The area occupied by the Jewish cemetery is of rectangular shape. It has a facade that faces the street, decorated with a pair of pilasters on both sides of a lintel door. In the upper part of the pediment there is a Star of David. A peculiar aspect of this cemetery is the presence of figurative elements in the tombs, generally forbidden in other graveyards Jews (this religion prohibits the worship of images). The cemetery has 165 tombs of which forty and two do not have inscriptions. The monuments are usually eclectic The well-known "Corner of the angels" stands out, section of tombs of children decorated with sculptures of infants or angels of evident Christian iconography. It is in the Cemetery a modest prayer site.
