Hotel Colonial

I found this small friendly hotel in the 1994 after arrival at the airport late and asking a taxi driver for a hotel 'barato' (cheap). It was a simple, but comfortable. It was suggested to me that I not go out at night, but the president's place was up the street at the end of the block with machine-gun armed guards on the wall corners so I did go out nearby. There is a large bar which seemed peaceful as other Latin American bars. Another fellow and I went up the incredible new highway into Caracas and spent a good time. We only heard one pistol shot that morning, and a 8mm rifle sounding shot in the afternoon. Nobody seemed disturbed. At Macuto I spent some time at a nearby beach. Leaving, I went up into Caracas and took a very crowded steerage class bus trip to Punto Fijo, through another armed check point, to the airport and got my airplane for a short hop back to Aruba. If you are adventurous enough to go to Venezuela for something this was a good (relatively), thrifty,clean 3 star hotel.

It is a good hotel to let your clothes be all day at the beach to take a shower and sleep or watch TV with air conditioning. It is not luxurious, it is not expensive, they are responsible and keep their customers
