Pastor Mario Philippi (06/24/2019)
In 1958 this servant with my wife and two children changed from Trujillo to San Antonio del Táchira to continue our ministry as pastor of the Church of San Antonio. In the following year a house-to-house visitation ministry began in Ureña. Some families opened their hearts to us and then to the Gospel surrendering to Jesus Christ. We announce an evangelistic campaign to meet in a rental house near the entrance to Ureña. The first night came a procession of more than 300 people led by 3 priests in order to end the services using a method common to Colombia at the time of persecution, throwing stones and bricks. Some of us suffered injuries, but it was not possible to hurt our spirits and vision for the future of Ureña. We continue night after night with the preaching of the Gospel and then we began Bible studies in a house next door where we later built the "La Esperanza Christian Church." The reason we put this name is because we had great hopes for the future of the people of Ureña. It was not possible to put windows on the walls because of the threats of the stones, so it was only possible to put vents of concrete blocks. In 1961 we returned to the United States for a few months and then returned to Venezuela to the plains to evangelize and establish churches in those many villages using a plane to move through all the plains. On some occasions I returned to Ureña to preach. Now my wife and I are 85 years old, but the brothers of Ureña hold a special place in our hearts. You can contact us by email- [email protected]
