The Paria peninsula or formerly as Tierra de Gracia, named after Admiral Cristóbal Colón, is located in the extreme north of the eastern coastline, in the jurisdiction of the Arismendi, Mariño and Valdez municipalities of the current Sucre State, Venezuela. The peninsula brings together a variety of areas, from beaches to mountain forests, through extensive savannas, it also has two national parks: the Paria Peninsula National Park located across the entire width of the peninsula. It has a total area of approximately 2,438 square kilometers, which constitutes 23% of the geographic area of the federal entity. Of this total, the Paria Peninsula National Park occupies 37,500 hectares and was created on December 12, 1970, integrating a mountainous massif with exceptional characteristics not yet explored. Its maximum altitude does not exceed 1,370 meters above sea level. The vegetation goes from the cloud forest from 1000 meters and annual rainfall calculated between 1000 and 1500 millimeters, to the xerophilous as we get closer to the coast. Its warm and rainy climate is conducive to vegetation, which according to experts is home to species transported by the waters of the Orinoco River from Guyana and native species, which are only found in this area (endemisms). The conditions that prevail in the area of the peninsula favor the presence of an important bird fauna and subspecies new to science that live only within the park, such as the showy earwig hummingbird. Mammals include the white-faced capuchin monkey and the spiny rat, as well as deer, foxes, araguato monkeys and báquiros.
