Unfortunately Is closed due to Covid. However the spaces around the Pantheon are beautiful and it is worth it to visit that place.

Whatever you think about the current politics of Venezuela, the National Pantheon is a bonafide historical landmark, and a window into how we have conceived such history through the ages. Like other Pantheons such as Les Invalides or St. Paul, it has blind spots and shortcomings, depending on your historiographical point of view. A former colonial church, under several layers of renovations: neocriolla, modernist, and eclectic... It is the burial ground of many Military heroes from the independence wars, as well as from XIXth Century civil wars (especially from the once hegemonic Liberal party). Civilians and women are scant, as well as post 1936 additions. Be that as it may, a place with significant tombs and memorials should not be missed. Bolivar's mausoleum is the highlight of any visit -a chilling renovation that is the pride of Chavista architecture-, but there are many other beautiful monuments. The renovation included a moder parking lot, but it is merely a few blocks up from Capitolio or La Hoyada metro stations, walking through Catedral and Altagracia.
