The Cumaná Cathedral began to be built in the 18th century with the name of Seo Cordis Iesu (Seat of the Heart of Jesus). In 1929, an earthquake partially destroyed the building, but it was restored in 1936. It was designed by Monsignor Breckman, who also brought the timbers that make up the cathedral from the Cariaco mountains. The cathedral is a neoclassical style construction, with wooden altarpieces and religious figures brought from Spain. It is a metropolitan cathedral since 1989.

A very nice and emblematic cathedral of the city, but very dirty on the outside. They sleep homeless there at night and relieve themselves. You should pay attention to that. Some parts of the facade in poor condition
