Much devotion of the inhabitants of this sector of the island towards their ecclesiastical temple. Margarita is a land of religious towns like Tacarigua, where the best festivals on the island dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus are held annually. According to the eternal Chronicler of the town, José Joaquín Salazar "Cheguaco" such a tradition has its origin in the late nineteenth century. He affirmed that between 1886 and 1893, the tacarigueros built a chapel for their patron Saint Sebastian, but what would be his surprise, that at the end of the work, the saint was stolen, which motivated the Bishop of Guyana, Antonio María Duran to give and send in 1895 to Tacarigua an image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus that the prelate had Ciudad Bolívar. This is how the outside tacarigueros adopted him as their patron, and since then, with the organization of the Sisters of the Sacred Heart, Mrs. Victoria Gil and the Mayordomos, annually during the month of June they celebrate festivals for being the protector of their crops. and health. Among the activities that by tradition are carried out are: the ceremony of the descent and ascent of the saint from his throne, the daily prayers of the rosary in the streets of the town, the confessions and the sacrament of baptism to the ringing of the bells of the church that accompany the mass and procession on Saint's Day led by the Bishop of Margarita, who later, like all visitors to Tacarigua, is invited to enjoy the music and Margarita food prepared in the renovated houses of the town, because for his people the Sacred Heart of Jesus comes first of all your needs.
