The Dr. José María Vargas Hospital is, without a doubt, a site of great historical interest for Venezuelans. Located in Mecedores, it is one of the oldest health centers in Caracas, being founded in the year 1891 by the President of the Republic Raimundo Andueza Palacios, has witnessed one of the most significant historical events in society and religiosity of Venezuela: The tragic death of the venerable Dr. José Gregorio Hernandez Cisneros; called "the doctor of the poor" and that he was hit in the corner of lovers in the parish La Pastora and later transferred to the Vargas Hospital where he died the same day in the year 1919
