Historical monument culture of our independence temple

The Fort was located for strategic purposes on a hill at the highest point of a Rocky outcrop south-east of the city center, which allowed the complete city to dominate. The place is protected by a perimeter wall, which achieves a landscape context ideal, a paved access road, a new building for tourist information services and health services and surveillance; all this on a hemicycle cobblestone that serves as a parking area, while the journey is completed on foot, along another narrower cobbled path, along which are busts of some participating figures of the Angostura Congress. The building is irregular in plan because it is truly integrated to the rocks of this hill; it is accessed through a span that starts from the rock itself forming an arch, and then climbs by steps of panelas of clay and chopped stone, to the upper platform; Here is located a sentry box, gunships and a covered area to two waters, with cover of cane and finishing of tiles, from where the city is perfectly dominated. Built between 1901-1903 for the defense of the city, when it is involved in the struggles of the Liberating Revolution. Its importance lies in having been decisive in the Battle of Ciudad Bolívar, on July 17, 1903. His name is due to the name of a black man, José Zamudio, who was in charge of taking care of his employer's saddle horses and died hanging in an araguaney to avenge the sacrifice of his master's horse.
