Reviews
I stayed at Hotel Montserrat twice within a one week period in June 2018. I'm leaving a one star review due to the instance of racism and discrimination that I faced at the front desk. There was an extremely rude fat lady named "Alan" in her late 20's or early 30's checking people in, addressing people very rudely (e using "tu" instead of "used). She called me up to check in and asked for my passport. I give her my Iranian passport (I am both Iranian and American) and she looks at it and says "Are you arab?" I responded "No." (Iranians are not arabs). She then says "Por favor, tu eres arable." I didn't respond. Then she says: "Are you carrying any BOMBS in your luggage?" I laughed thinking that it was an inappropriate joke and I said "No." Then I noticed she was not laughing at all. I then said: "Que tips de pregunta es eso" (What type of question is that?) and she responds: "It's an appropriate question because people from your country may be carrying bombs on them and I have the right to search your bags." I then responded: "What country are you talking about?" In that moment, the phone rang and she went to attend it. Another young gentleman there checked me in. I am appalled at the level of ignorance and racism that a front desk receptionist could exhibit at this place. I called the Iranian embassy in Caracas shortly thereafter to let them know the name of this hotel that thinks it's fine to discriminate against Iranian citizens. I spoke to the General Consul himself who took down the information and said they may or may not look into it. I hope the owners of this hotel do themselves a favor by firing Allana. She was also extremely rude to other guests as well. By contrast, the 40-50 year old gentleman who works at the front named "Juan Carlos" is extremely professional and courteous.
Meh
It's a 2star hotel. It's cheap
Heritage hotel of the city, excellent service, very good location and good service. Complimentary parking for guests. Close to restaurants, shopping centers, shops of all kinds.
Terrible service, the manager yelled at me and offended me in front of everyone. I really came out very disappointed.
The room leaves a lot to be desired and for the cost in $ it is not worth paying it, even if it is for an overnight stay. Second and last time I go.
