The Llano del Hato2 National Astronomical Observatory commonly referred to as the Astrophysicist of Mérida or simply the Llano del Hato Observatory is an astronomical observatory located on the premises of the population of Apartaderos in the state of Mérida in Venezuela. Located on the eastern slope of Cerro Portachuelo at a height of 3,600 meters above sea level, the Astrophysicist of Mérida is one of the highest-altitude observatories in the world.

The view is really impressive, just like the concrete structure assembling, but don't waste your time, it's closed. A military man attended us very reluctantly and practically closed the gate in our face. The locals say they have been closed for a year, so take your forecasts. The road is tedious, since the road to the Observatory is a single channel, so be alert if you get a car on the road. I can't deny that the view is beautiful but it was worth it if the Observatory was working. The road is like everything, some good sections and others bad, if you have a rustic type vehicle, it is for you, but if you have a sedan type vehicle like mine, you also climb, but you must be careful. It is already on behalf of everyone if they want to go there.
