There are many places emblematic of the city of Barquisimeto and this bakery is one of them. Founded by Portuguese immigrants, La Orquídea’s expert staff has been making breads, cakes, pastries – and, notably, their famous espresso – for decades. One day, I went inside and ordered a latte and a Napoleon. I was hooked. The fresh pastry and creamy coffee brightened my day. The bakery has a quiet and welcoming sitting area – ideal for hanging out with friends – with an attentive waitstaff. I’ve been coming to the bakery for years now, a sort weekly ritual for me when I order my latte and pastry, and get carried away by the taste – not to mention the aroma of the place – while I add pictures to Google Maps so I can share the joy with more people.
