Huong Quang is the largest commune in Vu Quang district. Occupying more than 2/3 of the district area. In the past, the commune was located in Vu Quang National Park, where there was the former Vu Quang Quang battlefield of Phan Dinh Phung. From 2012-2013, the commune was relocated to give land to the reservoir of Ngan Tru hydropower reservoir (the third largest freshwater lake in the whole country) to the area of ​​Hoa Trung in Huong Tho commune. At present, the whole commune has more than 500 people and has reached the new rural standard since 2018. Huong Quang has nearly 50% of the Lao ethnic people, the rest are Kinh people.
