This little temple in between the alley will surprise you. Such a quiet place, beautifully contrasting with the busy clamorous streets.

A very nice community temple several times larger than the smallest one I’ve discreetly walked around in while in Hanoi. This walled and usually gated interior precinct and attached buildings is a functioning community space and is particularly in use during the Lunar New Year festivities. I would suggest not walking into any spaces with shoes still on as some western women did when I visited. Not sensible - considering the underside of footwear always harbours bacteria and germs - but actually incredibly disrespectful and arrogant too, regardless of whether anybody else is around. Plus be unobtrusive using your camera.

So lovely small pagoda near the great church.

I almost missed this place because the door/gate towards it was small. A historical pagoda that served as a revolutionary basis during the war against the French. It also had the honor of being visited by Vietnam's president Ho Chi Minh.
