This is a historical place where ceramics has been made for long long time ago. You can find a lot of ceramics and pottery here. Love this place!
Accessible for 7,000 VND on the 47A bus from the Old Quarter, this is a great half-day excursion. Take the bus southbound from #80 Tran Nhat Duat Street to the end of the line, which is Bat Trang. The dozens of shops had tea sets, tableware, and a lot of vases. Most interesting is the actual manufacturing, in the small streets East of the main drag.
Lets do experience in Bat Trang ceramics with friends and famailynthere a lots of beautiful ceramics in here
Tremendous choices of ceramic wares. Make sure to look for Bat Trang stamp at the bottom
I really wanted to like this place, coming from a former arts background. But it was just many similar shops with little to no variation, and much of the same merchandise. Perhaps it’s because we didn’t do a guided tour or spend much time here due to our tight schedule. We arrived fairly late at 3pm and stayed until 6pm, because our long-planned trip coincided with the Trump-Kim summit and we found the bridge closed in the morning until 2pm as Kim was leaving overland, when we were already halfway across in a taxi. We returned later in the day.nnUpon entering the market, a lady pitched us a workshop for 40k vnd. Since that’s what we came to do, we agreed and followed her to a little maker space, one of many among the shops.nnA different and slightly frazzled lady seated us each and gave us some clay. There were small children running around and the workshop was barely supervised with only the briefest of demonstrations. She ended up taking over since our newbie efforts were not up to snuff, and it was interesting watching her deft skills making it look effortless. She baked up the first pieces while we started on the second. We did 2 each. She asked if we wanted to paint and glaze, but we explained there wasn’t time since it was our last day in Hanoi.nnThe flimsy pieces broke in transit (which we expected), and we weren’t too attached anyway. I would’ve preferred a more involved experience, but you get what you pay for. Overall, YMMV at Bat Trang. You may get more out of it than we did if Asian pottery designs are novel to you, or if you get a good guided tour with more interesting behind-the-scenes.
