Lower secondary school is a grade in the education system in Vietnam, also known as secondary school, above primary school and lower secondary school. Junior high school lasts 4 years (from grades 6 to 9). Typically, the age of secondary school students is 11 to 15 years old. Previously, to graduate from lower secondary school, students had to pass a graduation exam at the end of grade 9 but since the 2005-2006 school year, the exam was officially canceled. However, by 2014 the graduation exam had begun to be reorganized so far. [first]nnSecondary schools are arranged in each commune, ward and town. However, in reality there are still some communes where there is no lower secondary school. These are usually communes in remote areas or islands.
