Laurent's documents (Cha Binh): First, a layman in Cu Lao January heard the news of catching the religion in Chau Doc, Joseph Tran Ba ​​Phuoc took the whole family to flee in My Tho, at that time. Father Marc is the pastor. On the occasion of Mr. Tran Ba ​​Loc's son, Phuoc was promoted to become Doc Phu Su, in charge of managing Cai Be, the whole family of Phuoc was about 15 people settling in Cai Be, that is the number of parishioners. Firstly.nn- At that time, Cai Be parish belonged to Cai Nhum parish which was run by Father P. Tournier (Father Thu). Father Thu often traveled to Cai Be to celebrate Mass and gave the Sacraments to both Cai Thia and Cai May parishes. On Christmas in 1868, Tran Ba ​​Phuoc went to the vicar to ask for the establishment of Cai Be parish and promised to be devoted to this parish. Fr Thu accepted the invitation and the next day, his father took Fr. Peter Nguyen Duc Nhi to help set up a parish and live in Mr. Phuoc's house to join him in gathering followers to teach catechism.
