Đền Thánh Anê Lê Thị Thành

Andrew Le Thi Thanh (1781–1841), also known as Ba De, is a Vietnamese Catholic saint. She was born in 1781 in Thanh Hoa. When the Nguyen court was implementing a harsh anti-Catholic policy, she was a concealer for many refugees in Ninh Binh. For this reason, she was arrested and detained in Nam Dinh. In prison, she still decided to keep the Catholic faith despite being forced to give up many times. She died in 1841 while imprisoned.nOn May 2, 1909, she was beatified by Pope Pius X. On June 19, 1988, Pope John Paul II canonized her to the rank of Holy See, and of the 118 martyrs and demigods in Vietnam, she was the only female Saint. In the Vietnamese Catholic community, she is considered an exemplary Catholic mother.
