Ba Be is a surprisingly low key tourist destination, a picture perfect mountain lake surrounded by gorgeous scenery. The main accommodation options are simple homestays in a small hilltribe village. It's a lovely place, but sadly, while the lake is nice to look at, there's not much to do, really. Boat trips are more geared towards domestic tour groups and quite pricey, and I didn't find any suitable place for a nice swim anywhere around.

Full of water, strong stream on small rivers flowing to the lake. Seeing some long boat driven solo by fish catcher, similar image found in Inlee lake in Myanmar. This time, September, I bypass the tourist community village and gone far some km to the small township at the best new asphalt road and stay in this Home stay' closed to the water

Beautiful and peaceful, not too many tourists around. The second smaller lake, in a calderra, was particularly good with great reflections of the surrounding hills. Best done as part of an organised tour.
