In 1954, the number of parishioners living in Gia Ray commune gathered to become Gia Ray surname of the Diocese of Saigon. A year later, this same group of parishioners built a small wooden chapel and metal roof to serve as a place for praying and praying. In 1964, Archbishop Paul Nguyen Van Binh for the first time gave the sacrament of Confirmation to their children of Gia Ray religion. After 1975, the chapel disappeared and some parishioners moved to another place. From 1976 to 1992, the predecessor fathers stood out to call and gather lay people to help the community maintain the faith. In 1993, this community was raised to Catholic surname by Bishop Paul Maria Nguyen Minh Nhat and named Francis Xavier with about 95 Catholic families. At first, they borrowed a temporary house from the parishioners to make a place for religious activities and the community to grow stronger in faith and love. Over time, the number of parishioners increased, along with pastoral activities of the Church, they gradually became stable under the support of the pastors. In 2010, Bishop Daminh Nguyen Chu Trinh raised the Church of Francis Xavier to Catholic Church and renamed it Gia Ray. One year later, GHBL Gia Ray continued to be raised to a Parish. In 2013, Gia Ray community happily welcomed Father Martinô Nguyễn Quốc Bảo Huân in charge of the Parish as the first parish priest.
