It's baffling how TripAdviser managed to give this hotel a rating of 9.5. The staff are very pleasant and friendly but it is in fairly poor condition and an older style facility with half the rooms inaccessible without going outside and walking a distance up the steep street. Luggage is carried by the staff when available but otherwise had to be lugged up rather rustic stairs that are not very easy to negotiate because they are steep, with sharp bends, uneven rises between steps and very slippery. There is no lift. Our room had 'rustic' floors with nails poking up, the curtain barely kept out the bright light shining on the side of the building all night, the shower did not function at all, the hot water was only lukewarm, the heater was broken to the extent that it blew maximum heat any time it was on and the thermostat did not work correctly at all. To top it off, the usual included breakfast buffet was not a buffet but a minimal traditional set menu.

This is a cute hotel with a vintage feel. It's a bit secluded on a narrow street, hard to reach by car. Better park by the main street and walk to the reception. Some very nice person will park your car in front of the hotel. Unfortunately I can't give it more than two stars due to the discomfort I felt in the room. What bothered me the most was the bathroom. If you're ok with a small, smelly and disfunctional bathroom you might enjoy the good parts this hotel has to offer. Check details below. Good: - Very nice people, the hotel manager parked our car, an amazing feat given the very narrow street and the steep slope. He had to drive uphill backwards! - Nice views from the top, where they have outside seating - Though small, the rooms are cute, in their own way - The breakfast was very good, the kids enjoyed it - Rooms are air conditioned. Otherwise they would be unlivable in this town's climate - Cute small dog Bad - small room - the AC blowing towards the bed - no elevator, you have to carry your luggage down steep stairs up to floor 3 or even 4. - bad, spotty wifi - non functional bathroom - smelly, smelled of sewers - little light - small shower booth, no space to bend to wash feet - no place to keep the soap while in the shower - no place to hang towels - sitting on the toilet I had to bend knees away from the shower booth, there wasn't enough space to sit properly - the sink was partly clogged, so it would fill up with water - there was no rug on the tiled floor, so it would get all wet from the shower, which was not tight, it would spill water on the floor.

Ace hotel. Friendly staff (even parked our car for us taking away the challenge of reversing up a tight road!) Comfortable clean room. Breakfast was included and is taken on a roof terrace that afford beautiful views. Highly recommended.

Good location in old part of town. Close to the path which goes up to the castle and close to the footbridge to Gorica. Breakfast was very generous although we didn't get to go on terrace was downstairs in a dark room. Room was nice, no problems. Staff are friendly. I would recommend this place. Although another time a would stay on the hill near the castle.
