Built high above Judenburg on a steep, partly vertically sloping rock crown the sparse remains of the former castle of Liechtenstein.
Nothing is known about the founding of the castle, but probably already in the 11th century a wooden fortification would have existed.
In 1635, the already ruined castle was sold by the then owner to the Seckau Abbey. The ruin is already so badly damaged today that it is no longer possible to locate all the buildings and determine their former purpose. Only the shield wall is still partially visible.
The view of the sparse but interesting ruins remains worth a visit.
Note: The way to the ruin is officially signposted - however, entering the ruin area is forbidden by signs ??? Since I assume that the ban on entry was made for liability reasons, I have allowed myself to pay a visit to the ruin.
