Great museum for kids and families, supernice staff
Light creates magical atmosphere. Tells the story of a town and region from the Roman period and before upto the contemporary period in terms of art as well as commerce.
Under the name "Museum Association for Vorarlberg" (today Vorarlberg State Museum Association ") constituted in 1857 the first regional history society Vorarlbergs, which counted soon after its founding 400 members. The association made it its mission to prevent the abduction and destruction of cultural property and "to give the past and present of the country, the right validity." It can already be seen from this objective that the association's board, which was liberally dominated for decades, was also concerned with contributing to the Vorarlberg's awareness of the state through its involvement in the country's history. The first focus of the National Museum Association was the exploration of the Roman history of the country, in particular the ancient Brigantium (Bregenz). His collecting activity, which also extended into many other areas, formed the basis for the cultural history collections (prehistory and early history, Roman times, folklore, weapons and legal antiquities, art) of the Vorarlberg State Museum, which in 1905 was his new 1959/60 redesigned building on Bregenzer Kornmarkt could relate. In 2009, the old State Museum was closed, renamed Vorarlberg Museum in 2011, and in 2013 the new, fromcukrowicz nachbaur architects planned and reopened the old district administration-extended building.
Very large amount of artifacts.
A well designed museum with interesting exhibitions about the local area and general topics. It would be good to have more information in English, though.
