Großklein is a market town in south of Styria, not so far from the border to Slovenija, between Leibnitz and Arnfels. The Burgstallkogel a few kilometers out of the center of Großklein is a place where the Celts lived in a Bronze Age settlement. Today you can even see the terrasses, where the houses stood. Many things of all-day use, like parts of cups or the drilled stones for the use of the looms, parts of weapons, bronze parts for holding toogether the clothes of the poeple. Nearly of this settlement is a graveyard with a couple of hill-graves, you can see today at all. Some of them where opened by archeologists. The findings are partly showed in the Hallstattzeitliches Museum, you can find in the core of Großklein. All around the Burgstallkogel where found graves and houses, stables where the Celtic poeple lived. Four graves of Celtic princes, with rich findings in this grave, things they gave with the died into their graves, for an use in a afterlife. It was a mask and hands made of gold, in Großklein you can view the replics, the originals are in the Nationalmuseum Joaneum in the city of Graz. The settlements around Großklein are very considerable for ancient history. There are from time to time archeologists there for digging, sometimes farmers find things, when they prepare the fields for the season. For not destroy the findings, they are recovered by the archeologists in an emergency action. A few years ago, a group of soo called experimental-archeologists rebuilded a house, a baking-house and a loom-house on a place on the Burgstallkogel, but exactly with the tools the Celts had in use. A ax of stone, Bronze-knives and cords and ropes of hemp-fibres. It is an amazing place, you should visit, when you come to this area. You can make a round-trail to all the ancient places, starting from the Hallstattzeitlichen Museum. I lived in the near of Großklein-Burgstallkogel for 10 years an I went often along all of the Celtic places there, the graveyard and the rebuilt houses. You should visit once, if possible... :-)

A small but nice museum for a quick experience. Most important objects are replicas. Friendly staff.

Unfortunately no photos were taken, but a great recommendation to visit the museum. The lady at the front desk is very loving and with a lot of heart and gave us a lot of information and was ready to answer questions. A little tip as we were there was a special exhibition on ceramic sculptures in the attic. Just ask for it. Local artists have exhibited exhibits there. Have fun visiting 👍😊
