Consulate General of Romania in Sydney

We are a Romanian couple - Z & I Finta - living in Queensland, Auatralia. Due to COVID restrictions we were not allowed to travel to Sydney in order to renew our Romanian passports. Luckily, the Romanian Consulate from Sydney organized a trip to the north of NSW, closed to Queensland border in order to provide assistance to the Romanian queenslanders in need. We’d like to thank to Consul Cristina Gheorghe and her team for their helpful effort(900 km drive and a professional service in a remote location). Ten out of ten !

My experience at the consulate was very positive. I was unsure if I could rely only on email communication with the staff but eventually it all worked out fast and well. The phone number listed on the website is for a call center located in Romania. Wouldn't advise calling due to cost and efficiency. Most of the information is on the website. I had to renew my passport so most of the documents I had to upload on the website, after creating an account. Website is not 100% working (maybe due to the fact that is not mobile friendly, I didn't try on a pc) and that's where the consulate staff came in to help. They were fast, polite and very helpful. It is a bit frustrating the lack of a contact phone, especially if you don't live in Sydney. But fortunately, the website will ask for all documents prior to confirming a time and date for scheduling you in. My personal experience was a 5 star. With a bit of patience and attention to details you can make yours a 5 star too. Don't be afraid to ask questions.

Only needed a power of attorney paper, but the service was pretty good, in and out in about 20 minutes, no complaints here. Only down side, the fee payment, cash only... Lucky my wife had some cash on her, otherwise I would have had to go ATM hunting. I had the misfortune to deal with the Romanian bureaucratic system once, in România.... Compared to that horror experience , and the Neanderthals that prop the system in România, I would say the service I've got from the Romanian consulate, in this instance, was excellent.
