Consulate General of Portugal

I was pretty blown away with how quick, efficient and friendly the staff were. I had to renew my citizenship card and passport, arrived 15min early for my appointment and was seen to straight away. Carla Lopes assisted me and she was absolutely wonderful! After I mentioned I really missed Portuguese food, Carla and her colleague went to the trouble of writing down a list of places to go to in Sydney to get my favourite foods! Thanks for making it such an easy experience and for the Portuguese hospitality :)

They were super friendly and helpful, Carla was the one that helped me, she was super patient and calm, answered all my questions clearly!! Super friendly, she recommended me to visit a little Portuguese community nearby, and it was great, excellent service !

Would give them a 0 if I could. The rudest staff ever. Not willing to help at all. The role of a consulate is to help its citizens in a foreign country but not for them. The women here clearly would rather be anywhere else but at work. Do not reply to emails or phone calls. Absolute nightmare. Fix it, Portugal! For your citizens.

Getting a hold of the Portuguese consulate in Sydney is incredibly difficult. After hours they divert the phone number to a business in Adelaide which is not related to the Portuguese consulate at all. They advise you to book an appointment on their website or send them an email which they haven’t responded too after several days. They don’t even give any official instructions over the phone or on their website on how to book an appointment with the consulate I had to ring the doorbell over 20 times in the Clarence Street building for them to finally answer their door whilst continuing to ignore my presence. They declined my request to show me how to book an appointment online and provided this documentation below on how to book an appointment on the website. Hopefully the screenshots below will instruct you on how to book an appointment so you can have a scheduled time with the consulate after my poor experience so far.

I am so pleased with the service provided. I confess I wasn’t very optimistic about getting a response as I know how consulates are difficult but a lady called FP (better not to write her full name) was so helpful. She replied to my email within 2 days and sorted out my problem next day. I was desperate and she was so good and helpful, even thought I didn’t have an appointment she still cared about my problem and did her very best to help me. Thank you so much FP and the Consulate!!
