I had the extreme displeasure of randomly being assigned Konekt Employment (formerly Mission Providence) Caringbah. Every interaction with this agency was awful and that’s putting it mildly. A bit of background of why I was assigned to this joke of an employment agency: I was having a fairly difficult year. I lost my primary source of income, a job in the medical field due to retrenchment, had a death of a close friend and lost several friends due to a falling out which was out of my control. Needless to say, I was going through a state of depression as a result.nnWhen I arrived for my first appointment I was informed that I staff member I’d be dealing with would be Ulyana. Every interaction with her was extremely negative; she was extremely rude and arrogant. Over the course of my dealing with her, she made several disparaging remarks. She simply could not care less about what I going through. You don’t need to be dealing with an impertinent, high handed individual when you’re battling depression, let alone when you’re in a good state of mind.nnIn order not to be dealing with this woman, if you could call her that, I desperately applied for hundreds of jobs, well above what is required for Centrelink. Finally, I was able to secure a job working in restaurant as kitchen staff. Unfortunately the hours weren’t very stable, so occasionally I couldn’t meet my mutual agreements. Ulyana would suspend me promptly and make an appointment with me where she felt it was appropriate to make several sardonic remarks. This significantly added to my stress levels. Not that she cared; as far as she was concerned, I was dull bludging low life. It didn’t matter that I was honours university graduate, desperately seeking meaningful employment, in her eyes I was pure scum. Not that she treats anyone any differently there anyway. For example, once when I was waiting to see Ulyana, whom was often fifteen to thirty minutes late, for which she never apologised for, I saw a woman in tears. As stated before, Ulyana simply doesn’t care what personal issues you’re going through. She will make no concessions and will refuse to see things for the other person’s perspective.nnOnce, I had a short but horrible appointment with Priya. Ulyana was away for the day, which honestly was a bit of a relief. Maybe Priya would be a bit more open minded and not an abrasive, self-important wretch. I was sorely mistaken, Priya basically accused me of trying to cheat the system and that I was unconcerned that I was a burdening tax payers. That was the final straw, all the cutting, callous remarks, the inconsiderate treatment that I beared from this company came to the surface. A heated argument broke out, I am a very patient person but if you push me enough, I will respond in kind. I was just as rude and mocking as Priya had been to me. Funny that Priya didn’t like a taste of her own medicine? Maybe she will maybe think twice when trying to put someone down or making unwarranted assumptions about them but I highly doubt it. In a way, I should be thankful to Priya had she not been so repugnant, I would have never made the decision to contact Centrelink and be transferred to another employment agency. The new agency I’m dealing with, whilst not great by any means, seems like first class treatment compared to dealing with Konekt Employment.
