This was a great find. We went on the morning tour of the base. Sam, our guide, was very friendly and informative. We really enjoyed it. The new interactive museum was also very interesting!
This is now a great interactive museum on the corner of QANTAS Dr on the way to the Royal Flying Doctors.
We were one of their first visitors (they had only been open for 3 hours).
Really interesting history and the interactive displays are really engaging. Only phase 1 of the museum is complete, but it was well worth the visit.
Did a tour today with Lance who was very knowledgeable about the US Forces at Charleville. This is a tag along tour with 7 stops around the airport area. Each stop added another chapter of history along with artefacts from the war. Very interesting and enlightening as we were not aware of the role of the US Forces in Charleville previously. Best tour we have done in Charleville. Suitable for both adults and children. You will travel on some sealed roads and some dirt roads but do not require a 4WD. Highly recommend.
Sam was a fantastic guide with just the right amount of humour and a great deal of knowledge. I didn’t know what to expect on this tour but I walked away really impressed. Highly recommend this experience to others interested in WW2 history 👌🏻
I did this tour last week and found it really interesting. While you can go check out the sights yourself, I think having a guide tell you all the little stories that go with the various locations is what really makes the trip.
The trip is done via car convoy, so you do need your own transport to do the tour. This is good if travelling with little ones though - as my daughter was not really interested in the tour and so she could remain in the car at the various stops.
Our tour guide, Sam, was very knowledgable and friendly and more than happy to answer all the questions.
