Disgusting experience today with Dr O'Hare from Cairns. No cultural responsiveness in her practice with First Nations People and she made no effort to build a rapport. This incompetent psychiatrist refused to allow my support person to be there and I had this in writing that this was allowed. Either my employer was lying or this feebleminded psychatrist was lying!nnRed Health, your company must have went into 'damage control' because I received an apology letter from this feebleminded psychatrist, which meant absolutely nothing to me! Two days before seeing this professional psychatrist, I was discussing with my GP the high anxiety and suicide I have been grappling with from being a 'victim of crime' from a high speed MVA and the extreme stress of dealing with my emoyer due to being 'forced from my role' and given an unethical 'cease to work' order by incompetent staff who used a fraudulent risk assessment that was not sent to Workcover QLD. If this psychatrist is registered and practicing with patients especially First Nations People like myself in a clinical setting then there was no 'cultural responsiveness' in her practice skill set and that is utterly disgraceful for such a highly ranked professional and I work in health!nnSo can you advise what 'significant experience' Red Health has as a company working with First Nations People? Have you or your staff worked in Indigenous communities? Are you aware that the median age for First Nations People to die is at 52 years? Is Red Health aware that Australia has the highest Indigenous suicide rates in the world? What does Red Health know about how First Nations People view their health? For example, what do you know about the two cultures and the protocols to engage with First Nations People?nnIrrespective of the training and experiences a 'health professional' has attained, the key concern for any First Nations Person, family or community at the centre of Care is how the health professional responds to any particular encounter. There are multiple layers of responsibility to ensure Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people receive 'culturally responsive healthcare' can Red Health define what they are to me? The reason I ask is, my employer stated to me in a formal letter that they sourced organisations that had 'significant experience' working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. So what would do you understand about 'Cultural Safety and what could be the barriers for First Nations People accessing safe and equitable services? How does Red Health as a company, ensure that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are not going to be harmed or put at risk when dealing with 'culturally inappropriate' specialists appointed by Red Health?nnIt is not enough to say your company has undertaken 'cultural awareness training' it is a bit more involved than that! In saying that, has the company engaged in this type of training? Is it a tick and flick and the company passes?nI refuse to accept that Dr O'Hare was under-prepared for the IME because for her to ring my employer, she would have had to be perusing my file. Furthermore, the Psychatrist was adamit that she was not consulted about my 'support person' and put on a good performance to ensure her 'power play' in the therapeutic encounter with me. It was that bad, she refused to answer any of my husbands questions when I left distraught from your office. I even stated, that I had a written letter from my employer and she couldn't have cared less. The 'white privilidged' Doctor made no attempt to build a rapport or acknowledge how I could be feeling as a MH patient or even make the encounter safe and that is why First Nations People don't trust white professionals and why Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people request a 'support person'. Just because I work in health doesn't mean I turn my Wulgurukaba and Erub Islander button off, because my blackness runs 24/7. I hope this level of 'cultural discourse' doesn't make Red Health too uncomfortable, I know 'white fragility' is real condition.
