Although the name evokes thoughts of science fiction and world's fair, this museum is created around a very different kind of tomorrow - one that is more probable. The museum tackles the issue of Earth's limited resources - and what we must do to sustain and evolve. Beautiful architecture and creative exhibits serve to enhance the impact. Don't miss this one. #vero #travel #brazil

The Museum of Tomorrow is a different science museum. An environment of ideas, explorations and questions about the time of great changes in which we live and the different paths that open up for the future. Tomorrow is not a date on the calendar, it is not a place we are going to get to. It is a construction in which we all participate, as people, citizens, members of the human species.nnAnd why a Museum of Tomorrow? Because we live in a new era, in which the whole of human activity has become a force of planetary reach. We are able to intervene on the scale of molecules and continents. We manage atoms and create artificial microorganisms. We divert the course of large rivers, alter forests, influence the atmosphere, transform the climate. We inhabit a planet that has been deeply modified by our actions. What tomorrows will be generated from our own choices?nnThe Museum of Tomorrow offers a narrative about how we can live and shape the next 50 years. A journey towards possible futures, based on great questions that Humanity has always asked itself. Where we came from? Who we are? Where are we? Where are we going? How do we want to go?nnGuided by the ethical values of Sustainability and Coexistence, essential for our civilization, the Museum also seeks to promote innovation, publicize the advances in science and publish the vital signs of the planet. A museum to expand our knowledge and transform our way of thinking and acting.nnThe Museum of Tomorrow is a museum of applied sciences that explores the opportunities and challenges that humanity will have to face in the coming decades from the perspectives of sustainability and coexistence. Inaugurated in December 2015 by the City Hall of Rio, it is a cultural facility of the Municipal Department of Culture, which operates under the management of the Development and Management Institute (IDG). A successful example of a partnership between government and private initiative, the Museum has Banco Santander as its master sponsor, Shell Brasil as its maintainer and a wide network of sponsors that includes IBM, Engie, Grupo Globo and Lojas Americanas, as well as Renner's support. The Museum was originally designed by the Roberto Marinho Foundation, which is also a co-sponsor. Since its inauguration, it has received an average of one million visitors per year.

Architecturally, this museum is spectacular. It’s a real experience to visit the Calatravas building. Unfortunately, the content does not match the high quality of the design. This is a museum for people that hate museums: lots of video installations and easy to digest content. That makes it good enough to spend 30-40 minutes in a beautiful ambience with nicely designed video projections. But nothing to learn here (certainly not about the future).

The line to get in was very long, like 1 hour wait. Then the line for the main attraction inside was also very long, maybe about 1 hour as well. Then inside the main thing, a dome with video projected on it in 360 degrees, there were barely any seats. Not a problem normally but not after 2 hours standing in line. Furthermore, all the narration was in Portuguese without even any subtitles. The video was fine but not so long (ok because of the standing) and a bit frustrating because only Portuguese and no subtitles. Otherwise the museum had some interesting things and some or even most were translated. I really liked the theme of the museum which is to make people aware of the environmental impact we have and the importance to take measures together to healthy, happy and prosperous. Money is nothing without those things so we can't sacrifice the planet for money, which is only a social construct anyway. We as a society can make money by improving sustainable technologies, so let's focus on that!
