Brighouse Fire Hall No. 1

I have never had much need to use the services provided by Richmond Fire (thank goodness). However today I was, unfortunately, involved in a traffic accident in Richmond where I had to go to the hospital. The Richmond Fire members were so kind as to take all my grocery shopping, etc out of my poor damaged car and deliver it to my house (and my husband). I cannot tell you how much this meant to me as I am sure this is not part of their mandate. Thank you Richmond Fire.

Last night we were at the park next door when our car broke down around 9 pm. We headed to the fire station in order to see if anyone could help since it was me my boyfriend and his little brother and we know nothing about cars. When we got to the station we buzzed the after hours intercom, no response. But right at the window we saw a firefighter at the security desk. He saw us and we say him so he got up. We assumed it was to come let us in or talk to us but after five minutes of waiting outside (in the rain I might add) he didn't show up. We walked around the building to see if anyone could help when we could see through the window what I assume was the break room and the same fire fighter we saw at the desk in the room talking and laughing while eating some food along with other firefighters. While I understand that they may have been on break or it was off hours it still hurt and was pretty disheartening to have them see people who obviously needed help and ignore us.

I have nothing but great appreciation for the officials who visited my residence today. It was 9 pm and my smoke detector started beeping at 30 second intervals. There was no smoke and I didn't know what to do. I was home with my 11 year old and I didn't think either one of us would get any sleep with the loud and frequent beeping. In desperation I called the fire department. The phone call was answered immediately and despite this not being an emergency, four officers were at my door step in less than 4 minutes. They detected the problem right away were able to put my mind at ease. Thank you SO much!
