Hay Wire Cafe and Grill House

Hay Wire announced August 31, 2019 that they were closing until further notice due to staffing issues. They were still boarded up at time of posting.

The place is currently boarded up and shut down. Don't know if it will reopen or is pending a sale or change of management.

This restaurant allowed us to wait 1 1/2 hours and still no food. At 2:45 pm and few people in the restaurant. The music was loud, we asked for it to be turned down which it was until the manager overrode the waitress and cranked it back up. When we talked to him he informed us that he did not cater to individual tables. Regarding the delay in food delivery, he informed us that he was busy with inventory. I’ve rarely met anyone so rude. I told him I’d post my sentiments on social media and he informed us he didn’t care. Rare behaviour for someone in the service industry. Can’ Recommend the place.

Me: "I'll take the fish and chips, but can I substitute the chips for a salad?" Them: "No" (though you could order it extra as another plate) Me: "I guess we'll sit inside instead of outside" Them: "Good, you'll get better service" Them: "Can you move your third person to the other side of the table? It's hard for me to get through here" (the chairs were set up that way by the restaurant in the first place) As you can see from the above examples, this restaurant is pretty odd - things aren't supposed to work this way. As for the food, fish was mushy, though the fries were well seasoned (if mushy). Chicken sandwich was fairly good. Prices a bit high, though not awful.

Return customer to the Haywire! Fantastic rustic restaurant; Serving sizes are Very large and Delicious! Fish and Chips is amazing!! Personable customer service which is very nice. We’ll be coming back again for sure! Well worth the one hour drive!
