If I were rating based on my experience I would rate a 3, if rating for my kids a 5 - so averaging it at a 4.
We went on this train for one of their shorter Christmas Santa train rides. Total ride was about 45 minutes.
Our kids had a great time - so it was well worth it for them. As an adult it was boring, but we were not really riding the train for our own personal enjoyment...
The longer summer trips I hear are far more enjoyable for adults.
Beautifully restored building. This is where you go to catch the steam train (when running) to the McLean's Mill (a National Historical Site) with a fully functional sawmill. Sometimes in the summer you can see the "James Gang" in action, this is a local group of loggers who show how it was done in the past. But I digress, fun facts about the train station: I was one of the volunteers who helped restore the station to its former glory. After rail had faded from a dominant role the station was used by a freight company (Johnston Terminals?) for quite a while. They try to run trains for Halloween (Hogwarts Express), Christmas (Santa Express) and I've even heard of a wedding using it. Most of the people associated with this are volunteering their time.
Coming by here was by chance as it was very early in the morning.Parking was available at the station parking lot.We were taking a ferry ride out to Bamfield and needed to park the car for the day.
We had a fantastic trip with clear weather.A great crew aboard the Mary Rose.
This station like all train stations in Canada have a history. Good luck Port Alberni.
We rode the train up to the logging camp. Along the way they had a staged train robbery with cowboys and cowgirls on horseback raiding the train. Brilliant fun.
Fun train ride out to McLean's Mill, or just check out some of the cool old vehicles they have restored. Is a good spot for rare Pokemon.
