Emperor Gaius Julius Caesar as the founder of the city of Olomouc? That it listens nicely. And actually why not. Historians and other scholars may say otherwise, but we know ours. We meet him for the first time as the founder of the town in a document of the Czech King George of Poděbrady as early as 1469. This is a kind of weight. Today's Michalský vrch was then called Julimons or Juliomontium, and the name of the city of Olomouc was derived from all sorts of loops. So what? I think we have to pamper such a famous ancestor.

The Caesar Fountain with the equestrian group is the most famous and artistically demanding Olomouc fountain. the sculptural decoration represents the mythical founder of the city - Emperor Gaia Julius Caesar. According to local legend, a group of Roman soldiers led by Julius Caesar came to this place sometime in 57 BC. He liked the place very much, so he had it fortified militarily. The place was later called in his honor Julimontium, from which the name Olomouc later evolved. On the imitated rock in the middle of the tank is a statue of a rider on a prancing horse. At his feet lie two male figures with cartouches (with the coats of arms of Moravia and Lower Austria), and a sitting dog (symbol of the city's loyalty to the ruler). The sculptural group Jan Jiří Schauberger was inspired by the equestrian statue of Roman Emperor Constantine the Winner by Gianlorenzo Bernini in the Vatican Scala Regia. The stone reservoir of the fountain with perforated profiling is accessible after several stone steps. The reservoir of the fountain is the work of Václav Render, a master mason from Olomouc.
