Strahov Library

If you love books, this is a place you cannot miss. Make a reservation, pay the full ticket, get a guide, and enjoy the incredible collection of volumes, the halls and the internal corridor. Dont miss the details. For example the rotating wooden shelves are amazing. Did you know that pigskin binding was popular around 1600, and is easily recognisable because it is white. Calfskin yields a dark brown colour. If you dont love books, get the normal ticket, look at the books from the corridor and dont complain.

I was very fortunate to visit this breathtaking library on my trip to Prague last year with Tauck River cruise. I believe it is so beautifully preserved because they are so strict. The tour guide explained why it is important to protect this from human traffic and it is well worth the restriction that have to be enforced, It's part of the education process

Worst of time because you actually pay on to walk at the corridors.. looking the pictures from internet have a better experience than going there. :-(

We are extremely disappointed!!! We arrived at Strahov Library in the morning. Let's start from the beginning- the accept only cash (we were prepared for that, like in many place in Prague it happened before) but they do not have change(I wanted to pay with 1000 koruna banknote) We had to asked random people for help. Finally we got in paying 150kc per person(6 dollars). Inside you can find a few exposition with old books etc. but it is NOT possible to approach the bookstands! You can only look from a distant perspective to see the whole library, that is all. We saw two people 'inside' the library and we went to complain but the lady said that you need online reservation to get there... I checked the Strahov website before our visit and I did not find any information about prior reservation. If you like to take the photos you need to pay EXTRA 50kc(2 dollars). In my opinion it is NOT worth the visit. I really love books and libraries but I could recommend better one and even free of charge in other countries.
