Plague column

(...) He deserves a quieter place, but otherwise: all honor. The monument is beautifully renovated and the surroundings really well-groomed and planted with tuning flowers. In times of plague, it was probably an ideal and abandoned place to get infected corpses as far out of the city as possible. Today, on the other hand, bad luck is mainly the busy, narrow artery from the Zoo to Bohnice, which is driving cars up and down and cyclists through the corridor between the walls. Although it is a shame. Here too everything is elegantly adjusted since spring.

I was fascinated by the beautiful planting of ornamental flowers / rocks when we passed by, from the north entrance of the zoo. It is great that these tiny sacral elements are preserved and continue to take care of them. 👏

I came across this small rarity just a short distance from my place of residence. I will never forget to visit and take pictures of the plague columns, and I already have a decent collection. However, so far I have always come across them in the large / central squares and squares of the old cities. This stands as if "a little aside", at the intersection of Trojská and Schwankova streets in Prague 7 Troja near the main entrance to the ZOO, and is a replica of the original column, which was located in this small area in Trojská street until 1948 and was originally considered a vineyard column. . He was removed from this place, but he was saved and in 2002 he was moved to the upper part of the Zoo. In the years 1998-2002, the Quido Schwank Foundation had this replica made in many ways, despite its many difficulties. The Plague Column in Prague-Troja dates from the 16th century and reminded of the nearby graves of the victims of several epidemics. The building is registered in the Central List of Immovable Cultural Monuments of the Czech Republic. On the memorial plaque we read: "The plague column from the 16th century reminded of the cemetery of the victims lying in the gorge above the column. Plague epidemics affected the Czech lands in 1568, 1582, 1585 and 1599. The column was saved from destruction after 1948 by people from the Prague Zoo. Renewed with the care of the Quido Schwanka Foundation Troy-City in the Green L.P.2002 ". I found that "small" rarity only a short distance from the place I live.
