After defeating the rebellion of the Bohemian Protestant Estates on the White Mountain (in 1621), the Tubborn burghers had to move to Catholicism. In Tábor, the monks of the order of the bare Augustinians were invited to spread the new faith. The early Baroque monastery complex was built in a part of the historical center with predominantly uninhabited desolate houses. The building material would be obtained from broken houses, but also from redeemed houses in the immediate neighborhood, which after the demolition allowed the establishment of the Monastery Square. A total of 44 houses disappeared within the monastery building. The architect is called Antonio de Alfiery, whose signature is on preserved plans. The foundation stone was laid in 1642, and in 1666 the building was completed. The monastery was abolished by Emperor Franz I by decree of July 16, 1816.
