Synagogue in Kosova Hora

A unique object saved thanks to the dedication of one modest person ...

The Baroque Synagogue from 1630, restored in 1740, is located a short distance from the center of Kosova Hora in the place of the former Jewish town. The last modifications are from 1826 and 1857. The cultural monument of the Czech Republic. The original synagogue was wooden and burned. After the war, no one returned from the Jewish community and the building was dilapidated. The building was rescued by the local inhabitants and, after reconstruction, it was made available in 2011. In the synagogue, the exposition, reminiscent of the local Jewish community, which was very strong, constituted one third of the inhabitants of Kosova Mountain in the 18th century and significantly contributed to the development of the village. Municipalities and civic association thanks for saving this valuable monument.
