Beatiful historical landmark.

Part of the Gothic fortification from the 14th century. Prism towers were adapted for residential purposes in the 19th century. Today's perimeter of the walls is about 1800 meters. All four original gates were demolished in 1831-63.

The naming of this historic building, the tower of the city fortifications originally from the 14th century, according to some interesting people from the 19th century, just because somebody decided to place their monument there, I find inappropriate and misleading. It would be preferable to create two points on G. Maps - Places: The Monument to Blumentrit and Rizala, and the Second Dwelled Part of Gothic City Fortifications.

The city fortifications are undoubtedly among the pride of the old center of Litoměřice. The most significant and significant sections can be found in the southern part of the city center - on the José Rizal fences, in the western part (Jesuit Observatory and Václav Havel Park), in the southeastern part (around St. Ludmila's Church) and right here, around Blumentritt and Rizal's bastion, the fortification continues west along the street with the eloquent name "Na Valech" to the Gothic castle, where part of the older cylindrical tower on the north side of the castle wall has been preserved in the perimeter walls to this day. Today's perimeter of the Litoměřice walls is a respectable 1800 meters long. There were originally four gates in the walls. Dlouhá brána (eastern), Mostecká (southern) Michalská (western) and the fourth said Nová (northern, formerly Cínařská). All the gates were gradually demolished in the years 1831–1863. In the second half of the 19th century, unfortunately, extensive demolitions of the old walls also took place. Very impressive is the section of the preserved fortification system with battlements, gallery and prismatic towers in Velká Dominikánská Street from the years 1360 - 1380. The towers were originally open inside on the floors on the city side - they had only three perimeter walls. Part of these towers was in the 19th century imperially adapted for residential purposes. Blumentritt's and Rizal's bastion underwent a complex historical development. After the functional demise of the walls and their gradual liquidation from the beginning of the 19th century, it was maintained for a long time. A major renovation took place only in 1996 as part of a complete reconstruction. The bastion opens a permanent exhibition of the important Litoměřice pedagogue and researcher Ferdinand Blumentritt and the Filipino national hero José Rizal, after whom the bastion was named at the same time.
