The predecessor Church of the University Church did not fit on the former Karl Marx Square. Thus, St. Pauli was blown up a late-Gothic hall church dating from 1240. She had survived the wars, but failed at the SED. You can argue about that, but the view from the Augustusplatz to the glass front has something.
