Very nice museum and memorial for the jewish community In Speyer

Great collection, limited english signage available.

The synagogue and mikveh are in excellent condition and very well presented. We also liked the two films very much. Precisely because it was being built at the same time as the cathedral, this museum deserves a lot more attention in travel guides.

A small museum in the heart of Speyer where a lot of knowledge about Jewish life in the Middle Ages is imparted. The highlight is of course the walk-in mikveh in the inner courtyard. Very impressive and overall a very well-kept area. In the media room you have the opportunity to acquire knowledge in the context of various documentations. For example, the religious and architectural function of the mikveh and the concept of the ShUM cities are explained very well. The museum shop is also highly recommended. Small but rich. Instead of the usual "tourist kitsch" you will find a very nice selection of literature about Jewish life and Judaism. Our visit on October 12, 2020 was rounded off with a very good conversation with an employee of the museum. Many thanks at this point for the very good tips and suggestions for further excursions. I hope that the application to include the ShUM cities in the world cultural heritage will be decided positively. If you accept the information offered in full, you can expect a time of around two hours.

Nice documentation about Judaism in Germany. With the Schum cities of Speyer, Worms and Mainz an application is made as world cultural heritage.
