The Wannenmacher Museum, opened in 1985, shows the history of an ancient craft that for centuries determined the economic life of the place. Emsdetten was one of the few places in Northwest Germany where the tub-making trade was practiced. The Emsdetten bathtub makers made flat baskets made of wicker, so-called tubs. These were used in agriculture used for grain cleaning. The threshed grain was separated in the tub by jerky throwing up chaff and dust. The following topics are presented in the Wannenmacher Museum: The kitchen - The Sunday living room - Volume, processing, and types of the tub - The development of the tub maker in Emsdetten - The workshop - The work of the tub maker - Range of products and trade - The use of the tub in agriculture - The splicing, a collaborative effort. Some furnished rooms show the use of the house and illustrate the way of life and work of its residents. The exhibition area, organized by topic, provides background information on the structure and development of this craft in Emsdetten.
