I had expected a bit more of the ‘German Tools’; I think Germany was quite sophisticated in their technology during two wars - apart from the wrong intentions that Innovation can be proudly shown in a museum. In here I did see some drills, turning lathes and a box of 17mm wrenches.

I really like the way German people create their museums. This one is no exception. In here you can see a very long history of transport vehicles, their technical data, users and how they did impact their region and society. Safety, efficiency, comfort, downsides, upsides and side effects of transport are documented here. From bikes to high speed trains are here to be seen. There is an ICE locomotive on display but I could not board the cockpit, it was closed but it seems that Is usually open to public. You can board very old trains as if they were on service, mail trains, cars, trucks, buses and logistics service vehicles. Usually every vehicle in display has its technical data, very nice for nerds and engineers (like me). There is an area of the museum focused in learning mechanical principles used in transport vehicles where you can play with didactic models such as electric and friction brakes, clutches, transmission, fluids science on transmisions, steering, among others. I saw a MAN truck on display with its mobile parts explained and cutted so you can see how it works. No wonder why German children get interested in engineering (boys and girls alike) and grow to be so incredibly competent. Because, in every museum, technical details are didactic and easily explained. Sciences in general are nearly explained in every museum. I think that makes their young and children to become good scientists, engineers and technicians. As a personal note I think, that Audis motto can be said for all of Germany: "Vorsprung Durch Technik" (leadership through technology). And that is thanks to places like this.

Worth going.

A very nice museum and also easy to visit with groups. From the Stone Age hand ax, steam engine to CNC milling machine, everything a mechanic's heart desires can be found. Register larger groups in advance and maybe book a guided tour. The staff is very friendly and helpful. There are changing special exhibitions at some intervals. You should also visit the outside area with the big machines.

Was enthusiastic about the museum for me as an old machinist super interesting I even worked on some of the machines that are there and did my training so for 3.50 € you should definitely have a look it is worth it. Technology old and new oh so you can also try out some parts to better understand the processes. For children under 10 or who are not interested in technology, this is nothing. Also suitable for the disabled. Will definitely go there again.
